The crew and their tasks
There are usually four crew members on board the Rega jet. They each have special tasks. Only by working together can they bring patients home quickly and safely.
Pilots
There are always at least two pilots flying the Rega jet: a pilot and a co-pilot. For longer flights, there are even four pilots on board. This allows them to regularly swap with another pilot when they get tired. Together they make sure that the flight is carried out safely. They steer the aircraft and check the flight instruments. Before they take off, the pilots need to prepare the flights very well, so that they also land in the right place.

Intensive care nurse
The intensive care nurse looks after the patient throughout the flight. Before the aircraft takes off, they pack all the necessary medical supplies and equipment and stow everything away in the ambulance jet.

Flight doctor
The flight doctor is responsible for the patient and finds out about the patient’s illness or injuries before the aircraft takes off. Before takeoff, they also check that the equipment in the Rega ambulance jet is working properly and that all the important things are on board. Once they’ve landed in the foreign country, the flight doctor and the intensive care nurse go to the hospital to collect the sick person. During the flight home, they look after the patient together.
